The Nik Collection is essentially a large collection of presets and filters that can be modified, while FilmPack 6 adds a number of other useful features directly to PhotoLab 5 besides the 97 filmtypes in it. In my opinion, there is no overlap between FilmPack and the Nik Collection. Essential also does not support configuring the interface and limits the number of computers on which it can be installed. The Essential version does not have a preset editor or support the creation of partial presets.

The Black Friday sale encouraged me to upgrade to FilmPack 5 Elite. It added a small number of nice features, like creative vignetting, toning options besides b/w and sepia, and some film emulations (I dont typically add grain - just use the color/contrast profiles to taste). Even if you don’t go for DxO FilmPack, you’d be wise to consider the extra but worthwhile expense of PhotoLab Elite and DxO ViewPoint. While you can still get amazing images from JPGs, using RAW files provides much more. Use DxO PhotoLab Elite & DxO FilmPack 5 Elite For the best results, use our presets with DxO PhotoLab Elite & DxO FilmPack 5 Elite editions.

PhotoLab Elite does not include FilmPack or Viewpoint. I was using a free copy of FilmPack 5 Essentials with PhotoLab 1 & 2. What this means is that although PhotoLab Essential is a cheap enough way to get started, it costs rather more to get the full DxO experience and toolset.
